Frīday is a social music app. You post songs, your friends listen, and they save the songs to whichever streaming service they use. This policy explains what information the app collects, why it collects it, who else touches it, and what control you have.
Frīday is operated from California, United States. For anything in this policy, email fridaycllctve@gmail.com.
You must be at least 13 years old. The app asks for your date of birth when you sign up. If the date shows you are under 13, the account is deleted and nothing further is collected. Frīday does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email the address above and it will be removed.
You can share a song into Frīday from Spotify or Apple Music using your phone's share sheet. When you do, Frīday receives the link you shared and nothing else from that app. Frīday does not read your clipboard, your library, or your listening history.
Frīday does not access your Spotify or Apple Music account, library, playlists or listening history. When you open or save a song, Frīday sends you to that service with a link, and what happens next is between you and that service. Frīday learns only that you tapped open or save.
To run the app. Sign you in, show your feed and profile, deliver notifications, let people find each other, enforce the age requirement, keep the app working, and fix it when it breaks.
To choose what you see on Discover. Your selected genres decide which shelves appear, and follow suggestions are based on activity. Your main feed is not ranked or filtered: it shows posts from people you follow, newest first.
To keep Frīday safe. Reports, blocks, the word filter and profile picture checking all use your information to enforce the terms of service.
To understand how the app is used. Aggregate activity shows what works and what doesn't, so decisions about what to build are based on real use.
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, the legal bases for this are: performing the agreement with you (running the app), legitimate interests (safety, improvement, security), consent (push notifications, which you can withdraw at any time), and legal obligation where one applies.
Frīday is built on a small number of outside services. Each receives only what it needs, and none is permitted to use your information for its own purposes.
Frīday may also disclose information if required by law, to respond to a valid legal request, or to protect the safety of users or the public.
When you choose a profile picture, it is sent to Sightengine, which checks it for nudity, graphic violence and hate symbols. If it does not pass, it is not stored anywhere and nobody sees it. If it passes, it is stored and shown on your profile. Sightengine's handling of the image during that check is governed by its own privacy policy.
Posts, comments, usernames, display names and bios are checked against a list of blocked terms before they are saved. If something is blocked, you are told which field was affected and nothing is stored. The check runs on Frīday's own servers and no outside service sees the text.
Your username, display name, profile picture, bio, posts, captions, comments, reactions, the people you follow and the people who follow you are visible to other Frīday users.
When you save a song from someone's post, that person is told you saved it. This is deliberate and it is the point of the app: the person who introduced you to a song gets credit for it. The number of saves and opens a post has received is also visible.
Your email address, date of birth, which posts appeared on your screen, and how long you listened are never shown to other users.
Blocking someone hides your content from them and theirs from you, including in comments, mentions and notifications.
When content is reported, hidden or removed, or an account is suspended, Frīday keeps a record of what happened and why. These records may be retained after an account is deleted, so that someone who was removed for breaking the rules cannot simply return.
If you live in California, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and not to be treated differently for exercising these rights. Frīday does not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in California law.
If you live in the UK or the European Economic Area, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to withdraw consent where consent is the basis. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Requests are answered within 30 days, or you are told why more time is needed.
Your account and content are kept while your account exists and deleted when you delete it. Push notification tokens are removed when you turn notifications off or delete your account. Crash reports are kept by Sentry for a limited period and then discarded. Safety records may be kept longer, as described above. Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis.
Frīday's servers and service providers are located in the United States. If you use Frīday from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy law may differ from your own.
Access to information is restricted at the database level so that each account can only read and change what it is entitled to. Connections between the app and its servers are encrypted. Passwords are never stored in readable form. No system is perfectly secure and this policy does not promise one. If a breach affecting your information occurs, you will be told.
This website is served by Cloudflare. It does not set cookies, does not require an account, and does not collect anything you type. Cloudflare may log standard request information, such as IP address and browser type, for security and reliability, under its own privacy policy.
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes. Significant changes are announced in the app before they take effect.
